Sharon and Phil have been involved in the hospitality business for most of their careers, be it in 5-star international chains or small local hotels.
They have a simple philosophy: greet guests warmly and make them feel comfortable and special. “If you have a great product like ours”, says Phil, “then you are not only lucky, but also can focus on your guests' needs and try to do everything to help them have a fantastic stay with us. We don't really believe in the old "stars" system of rating; we prefer to take a more discreet approach and allow our guests to judge our hospitality. We try to create an ambiance where our guests can relax and enjoy the atmosphere; as such we don't allow young children in our B&B (minimum age is 14 years)".
Sharon loves to see the pleasure on the guests faces when they see the hotel: “it is a wonderful Victorian villa and the public areas and rooms are really lovely, so everyone is very happy when they arrive and settle in”.
Jasper, or “Jazzy” as he is affectionately known, shares The Torcroft with Phil and Sharon. Jazzy is their pet of 7 years, a cross-breed Ragdoll variety. As you see, he knows his place!

A Little Torcroft History

Torquay was established as a popular seaside and spa destination by the Victorians during the 19th century, largely due to its temperate, mild climate. Torquay has a micro climate that generally gives warmer, longer summers than other parts of the UK.
The Torcroft was originally built around 1860 during the golden age of the Victorian era as a gentleman’s residence. The building was extended over the years and now houses eleven beautifully appointed bedrooms and suites. Above is a photograph of a brochure from 1937, sent to the hotel by the daughter of an Australian couple who spent their honeymoon at The Torcroft. We have also had a recent visit from a couple who returned to the Torcroft after nearly 70 years!
